I am making plum jam for the first time. Am I supposed to peel the plums first?

It seems like I should, but I've looked at 3 recipes, and none of them mention this.

You can peel them, but plums cook down a bit different than other fruits, I wait until the dark blue prune plum the Hungarian type come out in the fall for my plum butter recipes. the skins cooked properly actually give the jam texture, not for jelly it is different, you also can strain it threw a colander or food mill to add more texture and remove the skins, peeling will take alot of time.
