I'm really sorry about your horse.
My barn has lost 8 horses in the past year, so I understand how you must be feeling.
Here are some poems and quotes we've used for the horses we have lost. Some are fairly long but you can just use parts of them and make them shorter if you wish.
Don't Cry For The Horses by Brenda Riley-Seymore
Don't cry for the horses
That life has set free
A million white horses
Forever to be
Don't cry for the horses
Now in God's hands
As they dance and they prance
To a heavenly band
They were ours as a gift
But never to keep
As they close their eyes
Forever to sleep
Their spirits unbound
On silver wings they fly
A million white horses
Against the blue sky
Look up into heaven
You'll see them above
The horses we lost
The horses we loved
Manes and tails flowing
They Gallop through time
They were never yours
They were never mine
Don't cry for the horses
They will be back someday
When our time has come
They will show us the way
On silver wings they will lift us
To the warmth of the sun
When our life is over
And eternity has begun
We will jump the sun
And dance over the moon
A Ballet of horses and riders
on the winds
to a heavenly tune
Do you hear that soft nicker
Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses
Love the ones that are here
Don't cry for the horses
Lift up your sad eyes
Can't you see them
As they fly by?
A million white horses
Free from hunger and pain
Their spirits set free
Until we ride again
You'll always miss him, but he'll be with you as long as you remember the things he taught you. You will never really be apart, as you will always be a part of each other.
Love is like the wind, you can't see it but you can sure feel it.
I don't know how I'll live without you, because every time I was around you I saw the best of me inside your eyes. (Lyrics from Smile by Uncle Cracker)
Again, I'm sorry about your horse.
Best of luck.

I'm so sorry about your horse. I'm sure your really upset :(
As you shut your eyelids tight,
You disappeared into the stormy night.
I saw your soul gallop off happy and content,
As I whispered into you ear "Goodbye, my friend."
"I felt you walk toward me, on my neck you layed your hand.
I closed my eyes forever, leaving hoof prints in the sand."
I'll wrap these treasured memories in a blanket of my love,
and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.
In life I loved you dearly, In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again.
I hope your okay, I know how hard it is to lose a horse :( its horrible :(
Reading some of these poems made me cry, they are so beautiful. Just think of the good times you had together, and maybe put a memory you have together on the grave? like for example if you have good memories of riding him along the beach or something, use the one about hoofprints in the sand. You are so lucky you had him, and I'm sure he was lucky to have you too. Good luck in the future :)

How about:
The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears. ~Arabian Proverb
And, in consequence, he perpetually struggled to outreach the wind, to outrun space itself. Other animals ran only when they had a reason, but the Horse would run for no reason whatever, as if to run out of his own skin.
He serves without servility; he has fought without enmity. There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent. There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient. The Horse
when the world threatens to fall asunderHis mane was there to wipe away my tears.
A wild heart but a loving soul!!

"The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears."
It's an arabian proverb, I think its very pretty and suitable.
I'm really sorry to hear that your horse has passed. At least he is in a better place, free from pain or worries.
You will always have with you the joy and meaning he brought to your life, so be sure to treasure that.

It is not enough for a rider to know how to ride, they must know how to fall.
He knows when you're happy
He knows when you're comfortable
He knows when you're confident
And he always knows when you have carrots.
~Author Unknown
To ride a horse is to ride the sky.
~Author Unknown
A horse loves freedom, and the weariest old work horse will roll on the ground or break into a lumbering gallop when he is turned loose into heaven.
~Gerald Raferty
A lovely horse is always an experience.... It is an emotional experience of the kind that is spoiled by words.
~Beryl Markham
He had the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and fire.
~Anna Dunn
In riding a horse, we borrow freedom.
~Helen Thomson
Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride,
Friendship without envy,
Or beauty without vanity?
Here, where grace is served with muscle
And strength by gentleness confined
He serves without servility; he has fought without enmity.
There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent.
There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.
~Ronald Duncan, "The Horse," 1954
"NAME" embodied "TRAIT".
Horses lend us the wings we lack.
~Author Unknown
My horse's feet are as swift as rolling thunder
He carries me away from all my fears
And when the world threatens to fall asunder
His mane is there to wipe away my tears.
~Bonnie Lewis
Your hoofbeat will ring in heaven.
Good luck on finding a quote. You have my heart-felt sympathy for the loss of your horse. May you find peace with time. Anna

I had a Mustang for many years and loved him dearly. He started having strokes and I had to say goodbye in a short period of time. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost a dog this week and I sympathize with your grief. I think the story of the "Rainbow Bridge" poem not only applies to dogs and cats. The story says when our animals go to heaven they cross over the bridge and are happy but feel a sense of loss until we arrive and they see us on the other side of the bridge. That is supposed to be a glorious moment when we see our animal friends in heaven and are reunited. I wish you well

"Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime, and falling in at night. I miss you."
- Edna St Vincent Millay
"I didn't ask for it to be over, but then again, I didn't ask for it to begin. For that's the way it is with life, as some of the most beautiful days come completely by chance. But even the most beautiful days eventually have their sunset."
"Don't be dismayed by good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again after moments or a lifetime is certain for those who are friends."
~Richard Bach
"As I look back on all that's happened..growing up, growing together, changing you, changing me -- there were times when we dreamed together, when we laughed and cried together. As I look back on those days, I realize how much I truly miss you and how much I truly love you. The past may be gone forever..and whatever the future holds, our todays make the memories of tomorrow. So, my lifetime friend, it is with all my heart that I send you my love, hoping that you'll always carry my smile with you, for all we have meant to each other and for whatever the future may hold."
-- Author Unknown
"I'm just no good without you,
Please come back home"
-- Author Unknown
“Remember me and smile, for it's better to forget than remember me and cry.”

Poems are good, just short lines. One is 'heaven is the wind blowing between the ears of your horse' Another is 'if you love a horse, you love love itself' Another is 'heaven is the pound of hooves onto the ground' Another is (very apt): 'to rescue a horse, is to give hope and love to the world again'

My sympathies for your loss.
A lot of wonderful quotes already. The only one I can think of is a greeting card I've seen - it is something along the lines of: "Horses are friends who leave hoofprints on our hearts."
