Nicaragua in Central America and Brazil In South America. Sorry, have no second choice. I researched both and have visited as well. Brazil has a quite good standard of living and prices are reasonable. The language may be an issue - Portuguese.

Nicaragua - same great nature as CR, but you can still lose yourself. Check out the Corn Islands, especially Little Corn.

While Costa Rica would also fit - it's becoming overrun with ''all inclusive'' resorts and the mass tourism which comes with it. Not my cup of tea. It was very nice ten years ago, when the roads were bad and the tourists were real travellers.

In Central America, you can try Panama, which is slightly lesser explored and well known for its natural beauty. You must see the Cloud Forests of Panama in Boquete. Many hotels are actually within the cloud forest; or you can take a tour high in to the mountains, through the clouds. But if you preer wind, surf and sand then Costa Rica is your place..

For South America I would strongly suggest Peru. It is a beautiful country with landmarks such as Machu Picchu, Lima, Cusco. You can get stunning mountain scenery, lush Amazon rainforests, amazing historical sites, and beautiful cities with impressive colonial architecture at Peru. The Gateways to the lost cities of Inca can be found in Peru

Another place which is very good to travel to in South America is Brazil, a popular destination, especially Rio de Janeiro, which is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Rio boasts one of the most lively beach cultures around.

Chile- You have the best of both worlds: modern and traditional.

    1. Atacama Desert- Driest desert of the world. Its town, San Pedro de Atacama, has a lot of sightseeing to offer for such a small town.

    2. La Serena- Make sure to visit "El Festival de la Serena" where various famous latin american artists perform beach side.

    3. Santiago- Capital of Chile and one of the most cosmopolitan cities in south america. Very modern. Contemporary art surround the plazas and the nightlife is great!

    4. Valparaiso- Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Colorful port city. People are very friendly with tourists. Natural history, fine arts and maritime museums are wonderful...including the house of the famous poet Pablo Neruda. This is where you will enjoy some of the best seafood in the world. 19th century style houses located in hills like "Cerro Alegre" o "Cerro Baron" make the ride on the funicular fun.

    5. Viña del Mar- Awesome nightlife don't justify the parties here.If you love to dance you will not stop here! This is my favorite place to visit in Chile. People are lively and very friendly. The Mall is HUGE! Great shopping! Beaches are beautiful...A lot of entertainment...Definitely stop by the Casino! If you visit Chile in February don't miss out on the biggest music festival in south America...world renown artists like Nelly Furtado, Franz Ferdinand, Daddy Yankee (country's favorite), Journey have performed in the last few years.

    6. Patagonia- This is nature at its purest. Beautiful lakes and mountains and animals only native to Chile roam in serenity. Just breathtaking!

    7. Easter Island- Again, just beautiful. This island has a lot of history and sightseeing to offer. The Moais are awesome and so are the natives.

These are only some places to visit but there are plenty of more where that came from

Central America: If you include caribean islands, i'd pick Cuba. Love its beaches. If not, i think Mexico would be, a lot of things to watch, ruins of old civilizations, nice beaches, etc.

    South America:

Argentina: It has every season, winter and snow + ski at south, tropical weather + forest + Iguazu Falls at right-north (limiting with brazil), desert at left, it has Buenos Aires, with nice nightlife and beautiful buildings, and beach (not like caribean beach though xD).

Brazil: The forest, the beaches, the carnivals, etc.

The good thing in Argentina and Brazil, is that people is very friendly with foreigners, we are touristic countries, and we like to see people from other countries. (this happens in almost all southamerican countries)

Que pasa? I've traveled that Americas extensively and this one is easy:

    1. Nicaragua. Beautiful, amazing people, you won't see another annoying American

    2. Colombia: Speaks for itself

    3. Chile: This country has everything, the Argentinians are too arrogant and while Brazil is a close second, it is too damn big to get around and the entry visa is $200.

Nicaragua - the undiscovered country. Beautiful sceneries, beautiful and very friendly people. It isn't called the land of Lakes and Volcanos for nothing. You want a great experience in food, adventure and friendly folks, definitely Nicaragua. I would love to go to Peru and Suriname. Peru because of the Incas and Suriname because is a country that isn't mentioned too much, so therefore it must be devoid of annoying tourist and it is probably a diamond in the rough just waiting to be discovered.

costa rica in central america, for MANY reasons. such as 25% of the country is forests so it has amazing flora and fauna, beautiful beaches, cheap and great healthcare, comparable to the USA. It has plane democracy, and less violence and poverty then the other central american countires.

In south america, i would most deffinately choose argentina and chile, for the exact same reasons i mentioned in costa rica, those 3 countries are basically the most stable in latin america.
