Has Netanyahu solved the Somali Piracy problem?

The problem of Somali pirates attacking ships in international waters, killing crew members and stealing the ship has plagued the world for some time. Now I think the Israeli PM has shown us the answer.

Somalia needs to declare a blockade on some part of its coast which holds a despised ethnic minority, All ships off the Somali coast can then be boarded on suspicion of blockade running and crew can be shot on sight. Netanyahu assures us this is not piracy, is perfectly legal under international law and any dead crew got what was coming for attacking Somalia.

No pirates then - the Somalians can grab what they want. The US Secretary of State can even help by making sure any alleged excess of force is investigated by an independent Somali organisation.

Surely a Nobel Peace Price is in order for the man who eliminates piracy on the high seas?

The Somalians are free to blockade their own country as nobody even wants to go there, let alone the cargo ships. Now if they block the Suez canal that is another story .

The Somalians already grab what they want and nobody does anything to them, they don't need another blockade they already have one in force.

As far as the "Gaza freedom flotilla" they should have been blown out of the water instead of shown the mercy of only being boarded. They are people that ignore signs and then whine when they get whatever the sign said would happen. STOP still means stop.

They didn't so they were forceably stopped.

    Good job IDF

"Wouldn't it be more efficient to get a merchant ship, put alot of US Marines on it and snipers and whatever, disguise it as a random merchant ship then sail it near Somalia and any pirate who tries to kidnap the boat, we just gun them down, continue?" Not an intelligent comment. No disrespect, but you seem to have no knowledge of what you think you know. You can take 10,000 Marines and snipers, and do what?. Kill 10-50 pirates?. GUESS WHAT?. You can't eradicate a large number of pirates that operate in different days and different hours in a different sections of the ocean. Believe me, they are NOT afraid of force, if so they would vacate the entire ocean LONG BEFORE when the first NAVY ship showed up back in 2005. From 2005, pirates and NAVY ships from India, France, Pakistan, Yemen were shooting and killing pirates, and that did not deter them. When you live with less than a $ 1.00 a day, than you don't mind putting your life on the line to get $MILLIONS. This is bigger than Somali pirates, and speed boats. This is something YOU don't know about, and NOT CNN, or MSNBC or FOX will inform you about the truth. If I was you, I would NOT concern it at all, and let the people who are experienced deal with it. LOOK, force has been attempted before. Ask the Indian Navy, and the French. If anyone is serious about doing anything about the piracy, they would start FROM THE ISLAND. Not at sea. Remember, these so called pirates were the guys that turned Somalia into what it is today, an anarchy country. They were militia men, fought law and order, killed and kidnapped aid workers, fought UN peace keepers, etc. Yet, the international community LET them terrorize the Somali people for the past 18 years. It is disgusting, how the international community CAN AND SOLVE problems they want to solve and for others they don't want to solve they turn a blind eye. Nothing is complicated about the Somalia, it is simply a tribal which is more today an organized gang crime wars. Today, they don't care about their different tribes, instead they care about how to terrorize the rest of the world using force. If Bosnia's war which was religious and ethnic is solved (the most complicated to solve conflicts), so is Somalia's simply anarchy. Remember Afghanistan?. Nobody used to even talk about them, remember the Taliban nobody concerned them, until 9/11 occurred. Why?. Because WE WAITED something to happen to take action. Not good. You can't ignore crises a way from you and dismiss it a "civil war" or "failed state" when it can have an impact on you right here. We are already seeing the Somalia impact. Bottom line: Help Somalia, to help it self get rid of pirates, warlords, militiamen, tomorrow's crises to the international world. If the international community would've stayed in Afghanistan after the Soviets, there would BE NO Al Qaeda or Taliban today. We saw that same history repeated in Somalia when the US left Somalia in 1994 and left it with warlords and militiamen. The consequences?. Al Qaeda cell planned terror attacks on US embassies in Nairobi and Der Es Salem. Today's pirates ARE NO DIFFERENT from them. You ignored them today, they hunt you tomorrow for a long time.

So by your theory, all customs inspections are piracy. The US attempts to stop drug trafficking, piracy.

See it isn't piracy when a country does it. If the Somalis could ever be bothered to form a government, let alone an actual navy, they might do this as well. Then of course other countries would be in their rights to lodge protests, seek international prosecution, and smack the Somalis down.

Piracy happens everywhere,if not on the seas then in our own back yards.Hell why not declare a blockade on certain places of big cities where the despised ethnic minority sell their drugs!

you r comparing apples to oranges.... not like comparing your brains to fecal matter.

"and crew can be shot on sight"? Now you are just trying to turn a blind eye on real facts in order to foolishly make a point! If the soldiers would've shot on sight, they would have not, FOR SURE, gotten beaten the way they did.

The one who deserves recognition is the mastermind behind the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, who effectively turned sympathizers into armed participants. Its outcome turned out to be an harming civil weapon against the state of Israel in the eyes of the media.
