Do we need the ODI format?

Cricket Australia is looking at changing the ODI format to a 40 over game - each team would play two 20 over innings.

Martin Crowe says drop the ODI format altogether & stick with Tests & T20.

Q1: Do we need ODIs at all.

Q2: If we do, should the format be changed (either as per the Australian idea, or in another way?)

Update:

In the Aussie version, wickets lost in the first innings would not be available in the second innings - so if you lost 6 wickets in the first innings, you would have only 4 available in the second.

    1. Yes we do need ODI's but shouldn't play 7 game series anymore. World Cup ODI's are much better than T20 World Cups still.

    2. These types of ideas will be played in domestic cups only, at least for the time being.

Hey, we need one-days. Instead of t-20s we can have the 40 over format. T20 does not reflect the talent of the cricketer like Tests or ODIs. Just hitting 6 is not cricket.

I know that this idea was criticized by some media calling it is selfish. But no i totally disagree. Sachin has all the right to have his opinion. And it is not a stupid idea whether you agree with it or not. It was just an opinion. Once Waquar Yunis also suggested that bowler should allow 3 bouncers to ball in an over. No one said that it was selfish. Star players like to get their thoughts and suggestions about cricket and it is ICC's job's to take them in to consideration or not. Here i personally dont like this idea bcz splitting the overs in ODI cricket will make the ODI cricket more complex and less interesting. But I think it is "selfish" to call that Sachin is selfish bcz of making this idea. Everyone is entitle to have their own opinions. Some may agree with him and some may not.

My oath we do. One only has to look at the detrimental effect the IPL has had on Indian cricket. India's supposed 'bench strength' has been weaned on twenty over cricket and they've been hammered by Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Q1 Yes, still a game of timing and strategy.

    Q2 Never.
