West Indies all time XI?

Cricinfo has just started the selection of the all time West Indies XI.

http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/463...

I think this will be the most difficult to pick of all the teams - there is so much talent to choose from among the middle order (Lara, Richards, Headley, Weekes, Worrell, Walcott, Kanhai, Sobers, Lloyd all fighting for 4 places - 5 if Walcott keeps wickets) & bowlers (Marshall, Garner, Holding, Ambrose, Croft, Walsh, Roberts, Hall) fighting for 4 places (assuming they don't choose a specialist spinner)

i) Have I left anyone out? (I know I haven't put openers, keepers or spinners on the list)

ii) Is this the most difficult selection of all countries?

iii) Who would you choose?

Update:

@ orribal: I agree that Australia has had the most distinguished cricket history of any country - but I still feel the quality of the names I mentioned makes the West Indies team harder to pick. In the team you've picked, you've left out Headley (The black Bradman - test average just over 60), Weekes - test average around 58.61 and Walcott - test average 56.68.

The cricinfo all time Aussie team includes (admittedly great players) Chappell & Border. I would rate Headley, Weekes & Walcott above those two - and they haven't even made your West Indies team!

Update 2:

@ hammerman: Good call on Chanderpaul. Fair enough on Gibbs - but I just couldn't see him getting in ahead of the quicks. Remember you've got Sobers who bowled two different styles of spin.

I suppose your right. This will have to be one hell of a task.Probably Cricinfo should select a 15 man squad for the all time Windies.

Don't you feel Chanderpaul's name deserves to be on that list?He may not have a high average(48.??) nor a good strike rate nor a decent number of centuries(11 i think) but hasn't he saved his team or given them some pride on numerous occasions. He played at a time when his team were under severe pressure. He may not make it to the all time list, but hey he does deserve some mentioning.

    My selection-

    Greenidge,Haynes/Gayle,

    Richards,Headley,

    Lara,Sobers,

    Walcott/Jeff Dujon,Holding,

    Garner,Marshall,

Lance Gibbs(couldn't resist the temptation of adding the lone tweaker)

Australia is the hardest country to choose an all time team from - they have 100 years of test teams to choose from , most of them rated as #1

Look at 1948, 1975,2001 as just some examples of teams that could not be beaten in their own era.

WI has a decade or so of champion teams, I like the following

    Hayes

    Greenidge

    Richards

    Lloyd

    Sobers

    Lara

    Murray (WK)

    Roberts

    Garner

    Croft

    Holding

    as one very strong team

(India could have Tendulkar, Dev and another 9 wanna be's - no where near the standard of the WI and Aust teams)
