Ponting's second coming?

Nobody can deny he has hardly been the Ponting of old in the last few years (though he has still been averaging in the low to mid forties). Now with the lead up to the Ashes, and the Ashes itself, he says "I've got the biggest eight months of my career coming up."

We've all seen in the past how he has not let controversies affect his batting, so do you expect the added pressure to bring the best out of him, or do you think the old Ponting has gone for good and will only ever be seen again in fits & spurts?

He knows if he cant get the Ashes back in Australia he wont have a chance to win a English Ashes series, which is about the only thing he has yet to achieve.

This pressure will give him more concentration combined with a more experienced squad to back him up.

I believe he will do well and the old Punter will shine.

Saying that I give biased answers when it comes to Punter.

  • Australia is famous for comebacks, so I might expect something special from Ponting in the upcoming Ashes series.

At this point a player of that much experince should rather be giving his team good scores with regularity but tis disappointing that he is still that hit and miss kinda cricketer.

Ponting can and will still contribute substantially: he is a champion and will soon get up and continue the fight.

Ponting is certainly capable of regaining his form: he is one of the best, all time!

Let's hope he keeps firing for Australia - though his consistency is poor as is M Clarke's - somehow they are unable to fire up when it matters.

I think that Ponting will be a major scorer in the home ashes series. This is assuming they have the referral system operating in the series so the umpires don't once again give England most the dodgy decisions like in the 2005 Ashes, 2009 Ashes and current 2010 ODI Series. I think he'll score at least 2 centuries in the series.
