Why is my laptop running Vista displaying limited connectivity?

My Compaq laptop which I had for more than a year running Windows Vista is now all of a sudden displaying limited connectivity when I try and connect to the internet whether wireless or wired internet. It is really frustrating for me as I had virtually tried everything. This problem only just occurred 2 days ago and it has always been connected to the same ADSL broadband modem throughout this year and now all of a sudden it says limited connectivity. I tried resetting the network adapter, tired some programming and countless other ways that I found online but to no avail, I even tried the windows diagnose and repair tool and I also tried Microsoft but to no avail.

Please any Help would really really, be appreciated.

Update:

Forgot to mention that I have a ps3 and a PC which are both running wireless internet through the same modem and are perfectly working. I have also tried to reset the modem but that did not help either.

If it is a software problem, one thing you can try, is to restore your registry to before the problem occur-ed, and see if this helps.

The wording may be a little different than I list below, but should be similar:

Start, All programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.

Select, restore my computer to an earlier time,

( only a limited set of restore dates or date, is listed, so)

Then select, choose a different restore point.

This option should reveal a calendar of dates in the past from which you can choose.

Select a date that is recent, but for sure before the problem occur-ed.

Then follow the prompts, ok, ok, ok.

The computer will restart, and you can try your connection again.

This process is reversible, you can re-run the system restore tool, and undo the registry change.

BTW: John is right, the first thing I would do is to power off the modem for a bit, then power back on. This often fixes the problem.

Another thing that has caused this problem for me, was lightning damage. If you had a recent lightning storm, and suspect it may be damaged, that could be it. Because you said both wireless and wired connections dont work, it is either your modem, or as John mentioned, a problem with your provider.

Z: Has an excellent suggestion, try another laptop.

Try another computer. If still cant connect you now know it is an ISP problem. Log into modem and view the logs. I am sure you will see some interesting information in there that your ISP sure would like to hear about.

Performing a modem reset does wonders for lazy *** ISP's.

You can try and power-cycle the DSL modem. I would contact your ISP first though. It seems to me that it could just be an issue with your ISP. Especially If you have tried every thing else with your computer and not necessarily with your router modem.
