What was a significant event in history that is relevant to our time now?
I know all history is relevant to everyone currently, but I am having trouble identifying one significant event that relates to the present.
This is for an essay, thank you for any help

Just as there are "Events" that shape History, there are just as many important "non-events" that caused history to unfold as they did. Who is to say what would have happened if Alexander the Great had lived to his 60's or Mohammad choose to become a Christian Priest.
The "significant" events are easy to spot ... because they are "significant". But it is the subtle decisions that make all the difference.

September 11th. It also shows how the past mistakes of the U.S government has affected our generation. I'm sure most people who know their US history would agree that the invasion of Afghanistan to fight the Soviets, and the U.S funding of the terrorist training camps is what ultimately lead to 9/11.

The Kennedy Assassination. For if it weren't for That Event, Obama probably wouldn't be President today.
