New Honda CRX owner, what to replace?

I bought a 1988 Honda CRX, 191000 miles with original motor.

I'd like to replace parts before they break (unexpectedly).

So far, I will replace the; water pump, timing belt (and tensioner), oil seal (to prevent it from leaking in the future).

What else can I replace before it breaks? Should I buy Honda OEM parts or buy from RockAuto.com?

All the gaskets/seals, all the hoses, clamps, oil obviously, transmission fluid, brake fluid, check your camshaft seal (the seal on the SI can break under heavy use), spark plugs, spark plug wires etc.

You might want to do a leak down test just in case.

Personally, I'd swap the motor out for a B or K series depending on what I could afford. :)

you may want to replace the ball joints... for steering. especially if they squeek when you turn the wheel.

other than that, honda's can last a looong time. :)

my 88 accord had over 500,000km's (you can do the math) on it. original engine and transmission.

if its standard you may want to replace the clutch if it feels sloppy.

I would look for parts at the autowreckers first, and then probably honda oem parts if you can get them.

probably more pricey but they will last longer than the car lol

I would do next suspension and breaking, ball joints inner outter tie rods, wheel bearing, upper control arms, rebuilt or rebuild break caiplers rear drums, new pads, rotors, check all break and power steering pumps. When gas goes up your little CRX be worth alot more
