What do you think of gays using homophobic slang as a way of taking back the word ?
Personally I feel it removes the power of the words offensive message. And tends to be used as a form of self pride.

I've never heard of that but it seems silly. It's not a thing to be done with self pride at all. It's done because those people don't understand the power of the words they're using. If I may generalise a bit, it's also the younger ones who do that because they either don't know - or care - what the old warhorses like myself went through and the serious hatred associated with those words.

as long as it meant that nobody else would ever be offended by it then that approach might work but because black people use the n-word all the time but it doesnt mean they dont take offense when anyone else tries to use it.
i really belive it would be better if people simply didnt rise to it, so that when we hear those words we can say with certainty that that person is ignorant and feel sorry for them.
i also believe that PRIDE is best reserved for accomplisments.

I think it's rad - a way to divert and reclaim power. These words will still exist if one simply does nothing, so why not steal them back?
Here, let ME make an analogy. Any of you seen Harry Potter?
Let's think about VOLDEMORT. The name strikes fear in many. People will tell Harry, "Shhhh...don't say that name!" but he continues to use it anyways. He invokes the name because he is not afraid. Similarly, I can refer to myself as a dyke, or a fag (whatever the case may be) in a way that does not disparage me, but instead lifts me up and makes me strong.
I'm getting a bit sentimental, but you get the point, I'm sure.

I hate it because they just end up reinforcing the words power by using it against each other. I've only ever heard gay people use "f**" in a negative way. You can't reclaim a word that way. Hell, even the simple non offensive word "gay" gets turned into an assault weapon by straight people. There's no winning that way.

It begs the issue for overly defensive people. I mean when black people use it, it's fine but when others use it they could make a HUGE deal out of it but people use it anyways cause it's being used. Or with another analogy, you are probably never gonna go smoke weed if you never heard of it before then TV advertise that people should not do it, which inform you of its existence chances are you might go out and try it. Thus it's promoting bad habit and doesn't really solve anything.

To be honest, I think it doesn't make sense. Just like how I don't agree with African Americans using the N**ger as *****. Think of this way, its like taking a crap on the floor. You decorate it, put flowers on it, glitter, w/e. Yeah it's pretty but its still CRAP. It's cool that you're taking something negative and making it to a positive but not like this. Be who you are & be proud. Cuz dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. Hope this helps :)

This is why people complain about african americans being able to use the n word, but others can't.

It's distasteful. Why perpetuate the use of a derogatory word? Just let it die and move on.

*Facepalm* Yea this is as dumb as black people who use racist terms because it's "Their word".
