Would it be better to join the airforce with a bachelors degree?

I'm a college student studying engineering at a community college and will graduate with my associates degree in engineering science in December. I going to transfer to a four year college where they have a ROTC program. I was wondering if joined after I graduated with a bachelors degree would I become an officer just because I have that degree or would I have to go to school to a special school to be an officer? Or should I just join the ROTC program at the University?

It's better to do anything with a degree! But no, a degree doesn't guarantee a commission. It depends on the field of study and what they need at the moment. I've personally seen trained psychologists turned-away and highschool teachers turned into pilots.

Talk to a recruiter. If you can't get the job you want, check back in six months, or even just three months. A recruiter who "loses" you one time may even call you later and tell you he has some slot that may interest you.

If you successfully complete ROTC, you will be commissioned (if you want) and may totally avoid Officer Candidacy School. My sister was commissioned through ROTC and stayed in school nearly another two years before she actually had to report for duty. Then they sent her to Lahr, Germany. Gee that really sucked -- not!

NO, a thousand times no, you are not an officer just because you have a scrap of paper that says you graduated college.

That is only one of prerequisites for commissioning, you must meet physical and character criteria, as well as be competitive in a number of categories.

Being an officer is different than being enlisted, I've done both and it depends on the kind of person you are. I think for everyone, it is more fun to be enlisted, but there's a chance for more satisfaction with the officer route.

ROTC is the smart way to get your commission, if you do well and you contract they will pay for your schooling, it's only a 28 day boot camp and you get to live a normal college life. The acceptance rate is far higher for this program than to OTS, which would be the program you would want to try if you have a full up degree. The acceptance rates for the OTS program are abysmal lately, under 10 percent, so best to go with ROTC if that's what you want to do.

Anyway, that's my outlook on it, in the end do what's right for you, because it will be best for the Air Force too.

A Bachelors Degree does NOT guarantee an Officers commission!

You'd still have to go to officer school but to be admitted to it you need a bachelors degree. So yeah I'd say it would be a good idea haha

just having a degree does NOT mean you are eligible for a commission.. or that you are going to be offered one. nor does taking ROTC guarantee that.. you must be contracted.

Officers are SELECTED you don't just walk in and be offered a set of Butter Bars. .

im enlisted and in the Marines, go the officer route no matter what branch it is. don't worry about the ROTC BS and yes you will have to go to special school, just talk to a recruiter.
