Other than a salad and bread you don't need anything else with the soup.

Depending on what you are putting in the soup you could have dishes with items that people can add to their soup. Things like..sour cream, bacon bits (the real stuff) minced green onion almost anything that you would put on a baked potato would be a good thing to add to your soup.

All you will need is the tossed salad or nothing.

Sliced tomatoes on a lettuce leaf at each place setting makes the table look pretty and is very tasty.

Put out crackers as well as the bread. Most people like crackers with soups.

Bacon & Onion Sandwiches (simmering the onions makes them sweet)

    1. Slice the onion, saute in a bit of butter or olive oil, then add water to cover the onions and simmer for 5 minutes. This removes the sharp taste from the onions and they taste sweet.

    2. Fry bacon slices

    3. Toast the bread and spread some mayo on it

    4. Optional: Cut into quarters and serve as mini-sandwiches (but they won't stay together as well as whole or half sandwiches)

    OR

    Open-faced cheese and bacon sandwiches:

    1. Toast the bread

    2. Put a slice of American cheese on top

    3. Cook bacon strips or diced bacon (can diced after cooking) ... put on top of cheese. Use 2 strips per slice of bread

    4. Dot with ketchup

    5. Broil in the oven or toaster oven ONLY long enough to melt the cheese (keep you eye on it!!!)

    6. Cut into strips or quarters (triangles) and serve as finger food

Chopped ham salad - chop ham, onion, celery and add a little mayo - can be used as a spread on a lovely bread as a filler. Another idea is make a ham and cheese strombolli using packaged pizza crust - ham and several different cheeses, sprinkle with some chopped green pepper roll up and bake - can be sliced and put on a platter as small finger sandwiches. You can bake ahead of time and just warm up for your luncheon.

it is pretty hard to break away from bread when serving soup unless it is a small predinner soup portion. if it is the main entree try a chedder/onion/dill biscuit or go the distance and handmake some beautiful rolls or serve a hot sandwich, like a panini, make i fun and everyone assembles their own with a selection of toppings and press them on a the grill.

soup & a sandwich my dear!

are you making a cream of potato and bacon soup? thats amazing... :)

try a sandwich platter for your friends to pick off of, with some BLT, grilled ham & cheese , and maybe some Western sandwiches on it to go with your soup.
