When on E.I., if you report other earnings (eg. vacation, termination, severance),what will happen?

Will the government deduct this from your e.i.?

  • Simple answer is yes, those amounts are deducted from your EI. Since those amounts are usually paid on termination, it results in a longer waiting period before your EI starts.

Don't quote me on the numbers, it may have changed over the years, but I believe that any payout is converted t weeks at your normal pay, and that number of weeks extra waiting period are added on. So if you received 2 weeks vacation and 2 weeks severance, you will have to wait an additional 4 weeks to start your claim.
