Solstice? Summer in the north. Winter in the south?

Is there a convention so Summer soltice is universal. Or do we need to state hemisphere each time we use the word?

A better convention might be to use the terms June Solstice and December Solstice, since the events always occur in those months and pretty much everyone uses the same calendar.

Likewise, you could use March Equinox and September Equinox to denote the equinoxes.

You could certainly make a case that those who use the term "summer solstice" are practicing blatant hemispherism. I am not sure what benefit would result from such a protest, once the terms become clear to all involved in the discussion. But, - yes - if we have to, I guess (sigh).

summer in the northern hemisphere when winter in southern hemisphere is absolutely true......

it happens because of bending of earth's spinning(rotating) axis about to 28degrees(not sure) with the plane of revolution....

u know.... all the countries on northern hemisphere celebrates new year in winter, and the countries in southern hemisphere celebrates new year in summer......

at present, it is winter in northern hemisphere and summer in southern hemisphere.....

because of the same fact, the two poles on earth have one sunrise and one sunset a year. means, 6 months day time , 6 months night time.......
