Antihistamines and decongestants can reduce your milk supply. Therefore NO over the counter "cold medicines" are recommended while breastfeeding.

Contact a lactation consultant to discuss your symptoms and their recommendations for relief.

Pharmacists will know if it is SAFE while breastfeeding but they may not know it can dry your supply up. Best to ask an IBCLC breastfeeding questions.

Definitely no sudafed as someone answered previously.

Food stamps will not cover medicine, only food, that's why it is called FOOD stamps. Ask the pharmacist which cold medicine would be safe to take while breastfeeding, although it's better to let it ride it's course, and get more vitamin C into your diet.

Decongestants and antihistimines (meant for allergies) can decrease your supply. Stick to the "old fashioned" remedies like chicken soup, steam, tea with honey and lemon. Tylenol or ibuprofen is fine for fever or pain.

when its cold your nipples become erect. the erection triggers the let-down responses in your nipples. this is when the nipple tightens in order to squeeze the milk down into the nipple in order for the baby fo feed. the feeling is kind of painful but you will get used to it and after a few months the let-down reflex becomes less intense therefore less painful.

The ONLY cold medicine you can take is Sudafed.
