What injury would help get sympathy, but wouldn't be bad enough to see a doctor?

I'm supposed to write the first chapter of a novel for my creative writing class. One character in my story is supposed to fake injuries/illness to get sympathy. What would be a good injury/illness that would look really bad, but doesn't look bad enough to go to the hospital/doctor over?

It depends what kind of activities the character is involved in. Twisted ankle or wrist, or a pulled muscle. Could work. If the character ever goes running, or runs without warming up or something, shin splints would be pretty believable.

Maybe a broken toe? Lol, I broke mine today :P A doctor can't help someone with that, because it's so minor. Maybe the character 'dropped' something big on their foot.
