Starting acrylic nails?

so i've seen two different ways to form the nail, which is gluing on the plastic tip and then applying the acrylic over it, or using a form and building the acrylic up on that. is one way better than the other or is it just preference? is one stronger/higher quality than the other?

Yeah, you're referring to sculptured acrylic nails when they use a form. Only very high-end salons offer sculptured acrylics and they take longer to do and are more expensive and require more skill. Also, these salons usually do not use the electric files and use manual filing instead. It's not better per se but some people prefer it. If done well, I suppose they might look better than plastic tips but it all gets covered with acrylic anyway in the end. They are the same in strength.
