If you have no fencing your dogs should not be outside without supervision. They will be hit by a car, it's only a matter of time. Take them outside on leash, then they can't run under a car.

You train your dog to recall by using a long leash or a horse lunge lead. Every time you call the dog to 'come' if it doesn't immediately respond you reel it in and treat when the dog is in front of you.

It's called "recall", when you can call your dog to you and he comes.

I agree with the answerer who said use positive reinforcement training. The recall command is a special case, and here's some things that go along with it.

First, you never, ever use the dog's name when punishing, or disciplining, or doing anything unpleasant (bath for example).

Second, you never give the command unless you are about 99% certain that the dog will obey. Every time you call and he doesn't come, he learns that he really doesn't have to.

Third, you never, but never, punish the dog for running away, because by the time you catch him, he'll think he's being punished for coming back, or for being caught, and will just try harder next time. It's how the doggy brain works.

Fourth, you always, always, reward every single successful recall, as richly as possible.

Fifth, whenever you see him running to you on his own initiative (he just noticed you have a cheeseburger in your hand for example), call him, then reward him when he gets there.

Sixth, don't *DO NOT* let him run off-leash until his recall is perfected.

Your superb it is going to be on your words and not your canines.I propose getting a halti which is going in an identical way a horses headcollar works.you have finished administration over his head and it fairly does artwork wonders for canines that pull, once you sense you have greater administration over him you are able to start up practise him to heel.be sure your walks are fairly relaxing, take something that your dogs is obsessed on i.e a faveourite toy or food, once you notice yet another dogs in the area grant him this typical element,it ought to be until now he's considered the different dogs. For some weeks go somewere the place you comprehend there's no longer many different canines so as which you would be able to prepare him to concentration on you with this faveourite element. You dont say how old he's yet canines dealing with adolecence in many cases reveal this behaviour,I certainly have a 16month old finished dogs who began doing this while he replaced into approximately 8months old,we at the instant are finally getting somewere,he walks to heel most of the time with or without his halti and if we spot a dogs in the area until now him we carry out his faveourite toy and have a game with him.shop reinforcing his practise esp his keep in mind and heelwork.solid luck.

Lots of love, treats and attention. I have been able to train most of my dogs and even neighbors' dogs with Cherrios and lots of love. Practice indoors or somewhere outside where it is safe. When the dog comes when called be sure to give him/her a treat and some petting. I had one doberman who knew when he had done a good job and would nudge me with his nose until he got the treat he knew he deserved! Practice, patience, love and lots of positive reinforcement. And definitely keep them safe until they have learned to come, sit and stay. I believe those are the three most important things for a dog to learn, for their own safety.

Positive reinforcement. Every time you call them, if they come, you give them a treat. If they don't come, they don't get a treat. Eventually they are trained to come when you call them because they expect a treat. And then they will just come when called.

Buy a 30ft training leash and read this. You will have to be patient and persistent, as a good recall doesn't happen overnight.

also do not chase the dog. it will only turn into a game for the dog with them running the other way. my husky is notorious for this.

When I turn my husky loose, I won't see her for about 2-3 hrs. She knows where she gets fed, and my county neighbors love her.
