What can I do about the heat inside a sealed up shipping container?

We a purchasing a 20 foot shipping container for storage and are aware of the heat that can build up when sealed up during the hot Queensland Summer. To avoid any problems arising with goods and chattels stored in coolite and cardboard boxes developing with this immense heat, how can we alleviate the problem without having to keep the door open during the day.

We want to keep the container shut up to avoid vermin hiding inside.

I need to know urgently as we are purchasing the container this week.

You can have it painted with ceramic insulation paint, same stuff they used on the space shuttle, see the demonstration here:

Well, ..., I would went the container at the top with a veined rotating vent at the top and a heavily screened vent at the bottom to allow for convection. You can also reduce the heat by placing the container underneath a reflective canopy.

heavily screened vents along the base and at the roof line....there are great hardware cloths in metal that will deter pests.... see that the openings are shielded from rain, too.... should end up looking like a window with an awning over it outside..... vents for the roof could be the same or more like those for a house roof.....
