Best route to drive from Seattle to Palm Springs in the winter?

Will be driving a Volkswagen CC this weekend .

Have done the drive before in the Summer, but never in the winter and the forecast looks to be snow from Ashland to Eureka .

Now wondering if I should cut across at Eugene to Florence and get on Hwy 101 or is there some other route ? I-90 east

    Take I-5 all the way down to CA route 57S

    then take that to I 10 E

    take that CA route 111 toward Palm Springs

    i'd also advise the "8" - which will take you to a mid-element between Phoenix & Tucson, the position you'll hit I-10. Then take I-10 from that element all the way down to Tucson. on the "8" and that i-10 intersection, that is in common words about 30-40 5 minutes to Tucson from there.
