Dog car harness. Need quality one for my lab.?

Need a quality dog harness to use in the car so that my lab is safe while riding in the back seat. Thought it would be easy to find--look on Amazon and check out 4 stars and above. HOWEVER it appears that manufacturers are quite willing to CHEAT people. They MADE a good product, but then as costs rose, they went plastic, etc. So the folks who bought when it WAS a quality product have their 5 stars in their bumping up the junk 1 and 2 star reviews people who buy NOW write because it's inferior JUNK that is being sold. That's not something I want to risk with my boy, so I would like someone who has purchased a car harness that is excellent: strong in case of slamming on brakes, comfortable, won't chafe, etc.

I need the NAME of the product. It needs to come in large--my lab is about 55-60 pounds as he should be--so something great for a chihuahua doesn't help.

Again, need folks who have purchased the item in 2012 or who sell the item and know it is still produced appropriately to have earned the rating it's relying on.

I'm hoping it will cost under $50, but my boy's safety trumps price.

Again, have looked at Amazon and other sites, so I need personal experience for a larger dog to get a quality product. A barrier between front and back will NOT do. How does it protect HIM? Won't tether the leash either--could break his neck. Want a harness. It's a small car and a tiny crate will make him uncomfortable. Harness is best choice.

Update:

Grace, appreciate your feedback. However, those harnesses are ones that if you read the more current low star reviews are part of the problem: the manufacturer has decreased their quality but has the nerve to pretend it's the same product as they sold in prior years. They had stood out for the high ratings, but I always read the 1 and 2 star reviews because that is frequently where you save your money and that's how I see they've degraded their products :(

Yup. Manufacturers are a really big problem. I've come across many items on Amazon that look great in pictures, but aren't like that when I actually receive them. However, some things that I buy off the website have amazing prices and are good quality. One has to CAREFULLY read the customer reviews (both 1~3 stars AND 4~5 stars). I currently own six dogs (Pitbull terrier mix, German shepherd, Pembroke Welsh corgi, rough-haired Collie, Border collie, and a mutt -- I live on a huge farm with my mom, grandparents, two horses, 20+ pet rats, 11 ducks, 13 chickens, and three cats! XD), and they all have good harnesses when they are in the cars. Well, the two rambunctious ones get harnesses and the other four ride in the back seats of our hummer. We literally take all six of our dogs everywhere we go. Most of them -- see how I said MOST there -- are well trained and heel on command. They never get out of control...mostly -- see how I said MOSTLY there again ;)

Here are the harnesses I use for my doggos; I got them all off Amazon.

    - Bergan Dog Auto Harness with Tether ( http://www.amazon.com/Bergan-Auto-Harness-Tether-L... )

    - Good Pet Stuff Travelin' Dog Car Harness ( http://www.amazon.com/Good-Pet-Stuff-Travelin-Harn... )

By the way, I'm just letting you know not to get this car harness if your dog is a good chewer. My German shepherd tore this one up in a few days. He didn't chew the Good Pet Stuff Travelin' Dog Car Harness, though. *shrugs* o.O

    - Solvit Car Safety Harnesses for Dogs ( http://www.amazon.com/Solvit-62296-Vehicle-Safety-... )

Notice how all of the harness have broad chest pads.

I really hope this helped :)

    Let me know.
