Need help with triangular numbers?

Note: n = triangular number

The rectangular numbers represent the number of dots in a rectangular array. The first four are listed below:

for n=1: 2 dots

for n=2: 6 dots

for n=3: 12 dots

for n=4: 20 dots

Find a formula for the number of dots in the rectangle n.

Update:

NOT triangular numbers. For RECTANGULAR numbers only.
