UK. When can you claim dole after dismissal?

Question

My friend has just lost her job and is wondering if she can sign on whilst she looks for a new one?
Can anyone help with details please?

Your friend should definitely sign on whether she is eligible for job seekers allowance or not.
Signing on means she will get credited with national insurance. If she does not sign on she will have gaps in her N.I. record which could affect any future benefit claims and ultimately her pension.

If she was fired she claims now - DWP will claim she quit - be swift to go to tribunal.

   If she lost it cos of her misconduct then she cant
