Should I get a Labrador?
I am getting a puppy and am looking into Labradors. Are they good pets? What are the pros and cons? Are they worth having as a family pet? Thank you :)
By the way my parents said to find some breeds then show them. So I wanted a Labrador to be on the maybe list.

Labs are the best family dogs you could have. My family has always, always had them.
Pros:
Sweet, nice, kind, cuddly, friendly, loving, etc
Easy to train
Good with strangers, kids, & other dogs
Soft
Want to please
Like to move (swim, fetch, jog, run around, etc)
Cons:
Prone to weight gain
Prone to hip dysplasia
Shed
Will destroy toys (no matter what the toy says, if it's not a nylabone, they will destroy it and eat the parts. Very dangerous.)
Eat a lot (big dogs=high food cost)
I find Labs to be boring pushovers, but they are the BEST family dog you could possibly have - ever! It's only rival would be a Golden Retriever, but they shed much more than Labs.

They are well suited as working dogs, I hate seeing them as pets, because that was not their original intention. Great working dogs
Athletic
Great swimmers
Intelligent
Easy to train
Cons
They need to WORK, they are not house pets
They are intelligent so they will figure out things to do if they are bored and left alone
They shed bucket loads
Most of them are poorly bred with serious health problems and unstable and vicious temperaments
They are a pain in the azz when young
They are insanely strong
They are stubborn

they are good pets once they get over puppy stage of chewing and destroying mine destroyed most of my furniture in his first few years don't know if I'd recommend a lab or not personally I'll never get another lab after this 1 but he's got alot of years left. He was 3 and a half before he settled down and stopped destroying things,

they are great family pets. they need to be brushed a good bit and a good amount of excersise, but if you give them that then u will have a great new family member. they are loving, loyal, and smart. they are usaully good around people if socialized as a pup :)

They are really sweet dogs. Training can be easy if you have patients, they are super hyper, need space to run around, they eat a lot, needs daily grooming and they like to chew

Since you are a minor, it's up to your parents to do research, to see if a Lab fits their lifestyle.

You need to do your own research
There are plenty of websites and books about them
