Zest. Citrus zest. I have a lot of citrus fruit to get the zest from.?

I know you can take the whole fruit and rub the rind on a grater to get zest. I know you can take a sharp paring knfe and cut the rind away from the pith. However, both of these things are fairly time consuming and tiring. Anyone have an easier way/tool/method to get the zest off? I'm talking about 100 or so grapefruit, lemons, and oranges. It's a good problem to have, but my hands are cramped and someone might have another approach.

Others have interesting ideas. Here's one that's less expensive and easier on the hands: Ped Egg. Yes the deal for the foot. In fact, it works so well, there is another product called Zest Nest that looks just like it and is made to zest.

If you want some strips instead of zest, there is also a zester with a kind of knife on it that makes those sold at Walmart and some other places.

If you enter zester at Amazon, you may find inexpensive alternatives.

A planer is probably the best tool for getting the zest off of any citrus fruit. It's a lot like a grater, but the grates are shallower to avoid the pith. For this reason, you also don't have to rub as hard. You still have to hand rub them, but it's as easy as it gets. You could also peel the zest off with a peeler, lay the peeled segment zest side down, and rub off whatever pith remains with a paring knife. It's much faster and easier than rubbing the zest off with the knife.

purchase the fruit, juice it, freeze the juice and use the zest. That way it does not flow to waste. Then, you will stumble on recipes for drinks and meals so you might use the juice in. in case you want super quantities, try contacting cafes or juice bars or something comparable, who sell sparkling juices, and ask in the event that they might have the means to maintain you the peels. Or in case you necessary wholesale parts, then touch juice manufacturers, and ask them in the event that they might artwork something out with you. If no longer, perchance touch the growers and ask in the event that they be attentive to of any companies that could have the means to help you.

The only other tool I know is a microplane grater but that's still going to kill your hands after 100 fruits.

I found an electric device that will do an orange in 12 seconds, but it's 140 bucks sans shipping. If you're going to have this problem again it might be worth it.
