Is it not an FCC license violation for a broadcast news channel to purposely distort and edit material?

so that it distorts the truth so badly that it must have some political bias motive or the desire to incite public unrest.

and my thought here of course is the NBC editing, the way it was done I doubt you can find a dozen people who lack the common sense to say they did it to fabricate a racism story and to incite the public into public discourse

Update:

the first amendment does not protect one from what one would reasonably expect to incite public unrest/panic .... remember the shouting fire ruling justice Holmes.... and even bradenburg ruling that gets cited as a partial overturn, still might apply on the incite to riot allowance.

Update 2:

additionally Binky broadcast is also under the FCC rules and control, which is why they become fined for broadcasting foul and explicit language which also you could claim as protected by the first amendment if you just ignore the court rulings

    No, it is not.

If I understand your question as you put it, you are saying that a certain TV news station distorted news and thus violated an FCC license rule.

I actually don't know if the FCC has a direct rule that says that any TV news station cannot distort or edit their reports. It seems that if the FCC did have such a rule, that it would be challenged by all kinds of TV news stations whom would claim that it is their free speech rights to present news as they want , even if it is "distorted"or "edited"

As far as a TV news station having a political bias, that is their right even though it may not be professional It is not for the FCC to oversee that , or that is my best guess. The FCC is not some kind of governing body over broadcast journalism practices, however there are standards set by certain organizations or agencies.

Indeed TV news stations do have an outward duty to report news according to facts, but sometimes they may not be completely objective, or it might not seem that way. Sometimes people just think that certain news reports are "biased" toward a certain political viewpoint only because it does not completely align to their own.

People often feel that the media is encouraging certain people to think a certain way.

While it is true that TV news often presents sensationalized images and words when it comes to certain kinds of high-profile stories, it is actually the public , or certain groups of people, whom tries to put a political spin on certain issues and who create a ruckus about certain issues, and the media in turn presents it for broadcast then it can seem as if it is the media that takes up such a political stand
