boy and girl rats together?
would it be possible to get a female rat& male rat from the same litter and have them live together? but obviously get the male neutered, i also have an older rat that i was going to introduce them to later, once they settle in and stuff, so would that work or would it be bad to do that? thanks! x

Yes, a male and female rat can live together providing either the male or female is neutered/spayed beforehand. Spaying a female is a much more complicated process as her reproductive organs are inside her, whereas the male's reproductive organs quite obviously hang outside his body, meaning that the process of neutering him is much safer and provides less complications than with a female.
Of course, a better alternative is to simply buy two of the same sex. This way, you are not risking the rat not waking up from the anaesthetic during surgery, as the surgery will not be required.
Also, you will not be able to allow the male rat to live or interact with the female rat straight away, even after he's been neutered. You should keep them apart for 8 weeks at a minimum after the male has been neutered, as you have to allow time to make sure he is definitely sterile and could not potentially impregnate the female. After 8 weeks, it may be difficult to re-introduce the rats as the female could be territorial and aggressive. So having a male and female is actually more costly because you will need to buy another cage for the male to live in until such time that he has been neutered and is 100% sterile.
In my opinion, just go for either 2 males or 2 females.
Hope this helps.

Very bad. They will either mate or fight. And one will savage the other to death!!! And it is not good for the same litter to mate the baby will be a bit messed up. Get two males or teo females from the same litter will be fine
