Which Caribbean Island do you recommend for first time visitors to the Caribbean.?

My wife and I are mid 50's. Neither of us has even been to the Caribbean. We like good beaches, good food, good bars, some shopping. Hate people always hitting on us to buy something, and what we call industrial dinning - i.e. the food you get at most all inclusive resorts or cruise ships. Not interested in a cruise.

I think you will enjoy Barbados. It's a hidden gem of the Carebbean most tourists are from Canada and GB. It's an island with a lot of history Gorge Washington was there his only trip away from US. It has a great exchange rate 1 american dollar to 2 barbados dollars. It's safe. I recommend a car and exploring all that the island has to offer. Food options are many. From street wendors to upscale places. I've been there twice and enjoyed it very much. Stay on the east coast where the water is the most calm.

    Grand Bahama Island.

I went there with my family a few years back. It was fantastic! We stayed at a really nice resort where the hotel rooms were like little houses with a top and bottom floor (different floors with different rooms) and it was so cute! We were right on the beach and the people were so nice. We went snorkling where my uncle caught fresh Mahi-Mahi for dinner. We rented bikes so we could go into town for stuff to make dinner with and it was so cute! Our family did not get a cruise to the island-we took a private boat down from Fort Lauderdale and I think we stopped just outside of Freeport.

It is very worth it. Very nice people and very clean beaches, crystal clear water, I was only 15 at the time so I can't tell you much on the bars! Cute shopping towns. When you go into town, the locals don't really pay much attention to trying to sell you stuff. They are usually pretty busy with whatever and keep to themselves.

    Anyways, have fun!!
