Safe place to park the car and take a train into NYC?

Coming from Boston. Looking for a place I can park the car and take a train into either Grand Central or Penn Station. Someplace where the car won't be broken into/stolen. New Haven? Milford? Fairfield? Port Chester?

Update:

We would just need the parking for 2 nights, probably a Friday and Saturday night.

Most of them don't have any overnight parking and as you get closer to the city it becomes harder to find day parking as most of the spots are taken up by permit parkers. Every once in a while you hear of a sporadic flurry of break ins but for the most part the lots are all pretty safe. Rye has a police station right at the lot but you won't get parking unless you go after 4pm or on a weekend. Greenwich is also tough to find day parking. Port Chester often has day parking available in the large lot but if you're looking for overnight parking you're out of luck unless you stay at a hotel that has a shuttle service to the station. You may as well just come down on the Acela and leave the car in Boston.

Stamford has a large garage that is monitored so that's safe.

Some stations in Fairfield county have free parking on weekends and are almost always in nice areas, but do occasionally have break-ins.

How long do you intend to have it parked? A few hours? A few days? A week? That will determine where the best places to park are.

There are municipal lots in most of the places you mention, as well as many others, but they have time limits.
