Chalk paint question?

I sanded and painted bookcases last year, using a water-based paint in a spring green color. Well, it's just too darn green! Was thinking about using chalk paint over it, but don't know what color would look good -- and whether it would stick. The room has pale beige carpet, white trim, and spring green walls.

I'd use a pale cream glaze over the walls to tone down and lighten the green color. Or it might just be easier to repaint them in a lighter and less bright green.
