Is it a failed One Gig stick? or any ideas?
recent my laptop would start and quickly -3 sec- turn fan and everything off except power light. To fix i removed one GIG RAM stick and it booted perfectly. When i put the gig stick back in, it reverts to original problem. Kind of new RAM; upgraded to two gig RAM FROM crucial.com a few years ago, ITS BEEN FINE UNTIL NOW .

Certainly sounds like a bad stick, but could be the socket. Try swapping positions with another stick to make sure with the suspect stick removed. if it still boots fine it is definitely the stick of ram that is bad. Hey, I've had brand new sticks of ram be bad right from the start, so the age is really not important.
