When you think home defense weapon what do you think of?

A lot of people think of ar 15s which isn't surprising but I think of my Winchester 1300 i think a shotgun is a better option for close quarters espicaly with pdx12 rounds

Actually a rifle is not a good home defense weapon because over penetration. A shotgun or handgun is a much better tool.

PDX is one of the dumber defensive loads out there. It is just a slug load with 3 extra 00 shot. Straight buckshot is all you need at home defense range. The terminal ballistics of the shot will allow it to spread out more doing more damage to a wider area. Though is slug will destroy whatever organ it his, there is an increased chance of going through more walls on a miss.

The AR-15 has several advantages over the shotgun:

    1. Lower recoil

    2. More ammo capacity

    3. Less overpenetration (unless you use steel core ammo)

    4. Shorter length than a shot (even an 18-inch barrel shotgun).

    5. Easier to handle in a close combat situation.

The Shotgun has two advantages. It is probably a little scarier and it is devastating if it is on target.

I usually use a handgun because it is easier to handle in clearing my home. I can keep it close to my body going around corners in hallways and room entries. Plus it can be operated with one hand.
