Did you know that kneeling during the anthem is not against US flag code?
But you know what is?
- Using flag design as wearing apparel
- Using the flag for advertising
- Using the flag on products such as cushions, pillows, blanket, etc.
- Using the flag on disposable products, such as paper plates, napkins, etc.
- Using the flag as a costume or athletic uniform
- Carrying the flag parallel to the ground (happens every game with a massive flag)
So if you find kneeling as "disrespect", you should find the entire ceremony as disrespectful.
Gazoo you moron that isn't even from the same code

Carrying the flag parallel to the ground (happens every game with a massive flag)
You need to do a bit more research on that one

But the football players aren't doing it out of respect, they are using the kneeling as a political expression in the workplace. Political opinions and religion expressions are forbidden in most workplaces.

From paragraph 8: During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in a parade or in review, all persons present in uniform should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute. All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Citizens of other countries present should stand at attention.

The flag code is what you can physically do with the flag not how you address it.
We know that the intent of these football players is to dis the flag.
