What does it mean when they say “please stay on the line while I’ll transfer your call to the operator”?

What does that mean? I tried to call the post Office to answer some questions on passports. But they told me to “stay on the line while I transfer your call to the operator”. What does it mean when they say that? I hung up eventually since they took too long to reply back. Anyone know what it means?

Yeah, it means please wait while they transfer your call to someone else who can answer your question.

    You should have waited.

You should have waited and eventually, probably within the next 30 minutes or so, someone would have picked up the phone. Trying to do anything over the phone with the post office is next to impossible. Actually, you should be called the Passport Office near where you live to get answers to questions about passports. They tend to be more responsive and they are the 'source' of information concerning passports.

  • They transfer your call to the department you're looking for. When you call them it's their job to redirect you to the specific department as they don't put the actual department you're trying to call online.
