What makes more power?
A 1.0 liter 1 cylinder or a 1.0 liter 2 cylinder I'd imagine the 2 cylinder would make power faster assumeing all the specs are the same but the 2 cylinder would have 4 valves and the 1 cylinder would have 2 valves

The problem with one cylinder is that as it approaches top dead center it has to use the inertia to over come the resistance of compression. The two cylinder engine has a piston that is pushing it up to that point and providing power. This means the two cylinder engine will produce more torque and to some that equates to power. Yes the two stroke will have more internal resistance (rings- because other surfaces can be made smaller) and greater rotating mass (an advantage in over coming the resistance of the compression stroke), but this is offset to some degree by the need of less weight to provide the inertia needed to over come the compression of the gasses.

You imagine incorrectly. A two cylinder engine has more friction due to more moving parts, So a single cylinder engine of the same capacity would produce more power. All things being equal. The one cylinder engine can also have four valves.

If your looking for H.P. then the 2 cyl. but its going to use more gas also. because it has to supply 2 cyl's with gas instead of one.
