    They played such drastically different versions of the character that they might have well been different characters altogether; it's apples and oranges. I could answer, but it would be based on my bias of which version of the character I preferred: of all the live-action depictions of the Joker, I prefer Jack Nicholson's with Heath Ledger's being a close second.

    Jack Nicholson, hands down. He found the sweet spot between campy and dark. Cesar Romero was too clown-like, and I was not impressed with Heath Ledger's portrayal (which is more a factor of the writer and director).

    I didn't care for any of their portrayals. I think Jack Nicholson did a pretty good job.
