If US politics divide everyone there, isn't the "United" part in the country's name ironic?

No. Because the states are still united.
It's not the United People of America.
This is how adjectives work in the English language.
(Is the United Nations undone because two members fight a war? No. They are still united in the General Assembly.)

Yes, you make a good point, but perhaps the "united" part of the name represents something to strive for and re-capture.
It would be a very pessimistic move to rename the country "the Divided States of America"...
Let's hope that the nation can get behind a common cause once again, and that cause is a worthy one.

Yeah and with the current President we aren't getting anymore united.
Many people think of politics as
"things that divide us". Why don't we think of politics as things that unite us. Let's talk about Obama-Trump policies that have improved the country. Left's talk about the things in common between the Left/Right. Let's consider we have a reason, to unite which is the Russian want to divide us. Let's laugh and care together. and unite against the Russians. We are the United States.
