Yes or no...this is an interesting story about a radio broadcaster from the 70s and 80s?

He was a young African American teen who originally wanted to be a sportscaster. He admired Howard Cossell.

After high school, he went to college to pursue a career but struggled and failed all of his classes. He had trouble catching on. After one year, he got discouraged and dropped out.

He went into the military in 1970. His soldier buddies used to complain about how the army's station never played any soul music. He confronts the station manager and unexpectedly was offered a job as the morning deejay.

When he came back home, he worked at a repair shop. A local radio program director came to get stereo fixed. The young man gave him a demo tape. He was later offered a job at a small AM radio station in 1974.

In 1976, he was offered a gig at an all white disco station. He did that until 1979. He then was offered a job at a fairly new soul station where he was offered his own show.

You can't get the story out of your head, can you?

It sounds like there may be an interesting article there; but the only struggle you show is that your character failed college. From the army radio station, his career started up. So he got to work in radio without a college degree. Good. With effort and luck, he made it. There must've been other struggles. The racist barriers, his looks (he might be homely) jealousy from other wannabes, his family thinking a small time radio job is not a breakout career. Was he faced with a choice of sell-out or doing something dishonest to get the job? Get the potential reader in the man's corner, thinking "What will he do? What would I do?" He's not broadcasting sports. How does he get that job?
