How many tropical cyclones were there in 2018?

Try to be polite to one another.

Don't call each other names.

Just answer the question.

Thank you.

Update:

I meant tropical storms, like hurricanes included. TY

Update 2:

Thumbs up and special thanks to Mr Z for providing a link to the data for 2018 !

In the Atlantic there were 15 named storms (i.e., tropical storm or stronger) compared to the average of 12. Eight of them became hurricanes, compared to the average of 6. There were 2 major hurricanes compared to the average of 3.

In the East Pacific there 22 named storms with 12 hurricanes, compared to the average of 15 storms and 8 hurricanes. Remarkably, 9 of those were major hurricanes, more than twice the average of 4.

Unfortunately I couldn't find seasonal summaries for other basins, but JimZ's number of 101 named storms sounds right. I did see accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) statistics late in the year, and it was above average in every basin.

I forwarded your question to Dr. Google who is sitting right in front of me because I really had no idea and it was a good question. Dr. Google asked Wiki and she says 101.

That is a lot more than I would have guessed.
