Matka Gambling or Satta is a lottery bet that initially bets the opening and closing prices of cotton transferred from the New York Cotton Exchange. It dates back to Indian Independence when it was known as Ankada Jugar ("Gambling"). In the 1960s, the system was replaced by other methods of producing random numbers, such as pulling cards from a large pot of ceramics known as matka or the delivery of playing cards.
