Why is it some people want to be the one to break it off with people but not the one dumped?
I don't understand wasn't there love and effort lost on both ends so it wouldn't really matter who broke it off? This is what he said "I have had my heart broken 5 times last year, or is it the other way round since I left them? heheh"

easy! breaking something is violence and that is fear. the one who breaks is afraid
The second is immaturity. Everyone is to blame for their problems and not others.

Some people see it as they won if they break up before you can. It’s a sad way of looking at life tbh.
