Is there a Greater Ottawa Area? I live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and I was wondering if Ottawa has a similar system.?

Thanks to amalgamation, the cities that used to be part of a 'greater Ottawa area' or Ottawa-Carleton (including Kanata, Nepean, Orleans and others) are all now just the city of Ottawa.

There's the National Capital Region that includes Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec as a name for the whole area.

Similar but more In T.O. Ottawa very bureaucratic.

Not really. What was once Carelton County is now the City of Ottawa, which has absorbed the communities around the old city (Gloucester, Orleans, Kanata, etc). Much of the new city is farmland.

It's called suburbs, bedroom communities, and satellite cities. Every major urban centre has them.

Yes, there is a Greater Ottawa Area, consisting of the Kanata, Nepean and Orleans regions as well as the City of Ottawa
