Vietnam for most. But once out of populated areas. They see so few farlings. Language & customs can be a big problem. Thailand has far more tourist & places up to American European standards to enjoy. If a first trip to Asia I would recommend the Philippines if English speaking. As English is spoke. Then Thailand next trip then Vietnam with more experience. Thailand use caution. Much more there in ripping of the tourist than other places. But depends on what you wish to see also & do once there.

My "vacation" in Viet Nam was almost deadly for me back in 1968

35,592,000 tourists visited Thailand in 2017, 12,922,000 visited Vietnam. So I guess that means that Thailand is 2.75 times better as a tourist attraction than Vietnam.
