Why do I keep thinking my art is crap?

Hello I’m Eren, I am a 17 year old artist. For some reason I don’t like my art. A lot of family, friends, and other people keep saying it’s amazing, but I don’t really like it. I don’t know why, but I don’t except my art. In my head, my art is **** and I could do better than this. So I always push my self to draw better and better until I am satisfied. But I am never satisfied by my art. I’m wondering, why do I act like this? Give me your answer on this please.

You lack of self esteem is the problem, not your art. I would wager that you have a deeply held belief that goes something like this”I am not good enough”.....this reflects in everything you do.

Unfortunately pretty much every artist feels this way at some point...you just gotta work on building the mindset that it's okay for your art to be "bad," that not everything you make has to be "good." You don't exist to make good art! It's hard to develop that mindset, but hopefully you can try.

    It is not uncommon.

Leonardo da Vinci carried the Mona Lisa with him and worked on it frequently for the rest of his life. Every work could be better if your aim is to produce realism – maybe that is what you could look at – not wanting to produce realism.

Don't be so critical to the point that your art becomes a source of frustration. There's no right or wrong, it's about what flows through you at the moment. Maybe when you go back and look your in a different frame of mind and the art doesn't seem to "fit". That's ok. Listen to Brian Eno's song called Spinning Away and read the lyrics.
