Canadians: How do some of yall get a return of $1000 when barely working?

I got a return of about approx 200 something this year. I work as a casual which is rare and I go to school as well which I included in my taxes. Do you guys do them yourselves, anything else you include? Any tips that I may not be aware of?

A refund is only because you lent them money with no interest by overpaying to begin with. If someone got $1000, its only because they paid in too much every paycheck.

Getting no refund and owing no money is the ultimate goal...

Simply getting a large refund implies that you over-prepaid on your taxes...

Just make extra tax payments throughout the year and you can get as big of a refund as you want.

You get a refund when you overpay your taxes.

If you want to overpay your taxes out of every single paycheck so you can get a bigger refund, go for it. In the end it makes absolutely ZERO difference because your total tax for the year is EXACTLY THE SAME whether you get a $200 refund or a $1000 refund.

Personally, I prefer to put my extra money in the bank so I can use it at my own discretion.

People who get big returns do so by giving the government an interest-free loan with each paycheck. Are you sure you want to emulate them?
