GST Tax Question?

Can someone please explain in simple words why do we have to pay GST (Goods and services Tax)?

    So the government can ride you while you pay for his luxury vacation trips as well as some dumb monarchich family that lives in England and oh yah forgot to mention they have family residing in Canada now man times are gonna be tough here and Canada and I think we are in for a nasty ride

    Google is your friend. The GST replaced another Federal manufacturing tax.

    With GST, you pay tax on your consumption. Much fairer than paying tax on your income. Of course in socialist countries like Canada, they grab it both ways.
