Why is Rugby Union considered a posh sport?
What’s so posh about it? I played it, I watch it, I basically live and breathe rugby and I’m very much working class so I don’t really get it.

Well the origin of rugby is Rugby Union. At some point, northern teams broke away in dispute over the payment of players. And was initially the same game as Rugby Union. But Rugby League evolved into a slightly different game with the aim of making it more interesting for spectators.
So what would you say? I'd say it's that old north/south divide at work again, with Rugby Union teams feeling a bit of a sense of superiority. Which is actually nonsense.

Because it was invented in a 'Public School', viz. Rugby School . Where boys would be from 'posh' families.

Well if you consider that in 2003, of the England team that won, only one player DIDN'T go to public school, you would have to say yes. Even in Scotland it is largely based in the Edinburgh public school/legal/medical professions although it is the main sport (bigger than football) in the Borders.

In some areas like Dublin and some parts of London rugby union is quite a posh sports, whereas basically in the rest of Uk and Ireland, and basically the rest of the world rugby is very much a working class sport.

During the early days of football/rugby working class people were generally more thin than those from the wealthier sections of society.
So the bulk upper class men would play rugby and the slim working class men would play football.
