Yes, there's not much in terms of pubIic transport. There are buses and trains, but they're not quite as reliabIe or popuIar as in other larger cities.

You can now actually get around Dallas without a car if you stick to the major downtown sights, hotels, and restaurants. However, if you want to visit shopping centers in North Dallas or outlying areas, like Arlington and Fort Worth, most people will be better off with an automobile.

If you are talking about Dallas proper and its immediate suburbs, then the DART is the main means of public transit. If you are in Fort Worth proper, there is the TRE. If you are looking to traverse the whole DFW area, you will need a car. The area seems to be inching towards a regional transit plan--and who knows how automated vehicles will affect transportation, but a regional transit system may be years away.

If you don't need a car to get around Dallas, maybe you should take the plane around the city.
