I think I have air in my house water lines.?

Occasionally loud sound come from the line. What causes air to get in the lines and does anybody know how to get rid of the air in the lines.

    Open all the faucets in your house, for two minutes. Check that drains are clear.

    There really is no banging in the lines. It only happens every 5 or 6 hours. My plumber says it's $200/hour to have a guy sitting here waiting for it to happen, I guess that's my only solution to the problem.

    I doubt it's air. More likely water hammer. You can fit a water hammer arrestor which will suppress the noise. See link for info.
